2017 Futures: Château Palmer Now Available

We have just returned from tasting the 2017 vintage and are excited to announce the first important release of the 2017 futures campaign – Château Palmer. The late April frost affected the yields for Alter Ego much more than the Grand Vin, but despite the issues with quantity, the quality of both wines is notable. The Grand Vin was one of our favorites from the trip, showing a complex and beautiful nose with ripe, round, supple tannin, good concentration of red and black fruit, excellent balance and a long finish.

Overall, we found the quality of the reds in 2017 to be between 2014 and 2015 with the top wines coming from the very best terroirs of each appellation. Saint-Estèphe, Pauillac and Saint-Julien produced the best wines on the Left Bank as the Cabernet Sauvignon ripened fully and shows excellent quality. On the Right Bank, frost affected the vineyards more heavily and certainly forced some difficult choices. Those Châteaux on the plateau in Pomerol and the limestone slopes in Saint-Émilion were far less affected and able to produce top wines at near normal quantity levels.

Stay tuned for more information on the 2017 vintage and new releases in the coming days.
