Bordeaux Soars as November Auction Brings in $5.6M
with 100% of Lots Sold

Château Montrose Barrel sells $119,500, Nearly Doubling the Estimate

(November 6, 2017 - Chicago, IL) - Hart Davis Hart Wine Co. recorded history this past weekend offering a full barrel of 2016 Château Montrose, a first for the Château and the wine auction house. The auction room at Spiaggia fell silent as Montrose’s CEO Hervé Berland offered a few words surrounding the lot, including the special evening to be hosted for the winning bidder. Ben Ferdinand opened the bidding at $50,000. Competition was strong with bids in the room, on the phone, and online which drove the price quickly into triple-digits. The hammer came down and the exclusive experience sold for $119,500, nearly double the midpoint estimate. The incredibly unique lot became the third highest hammer price in the history of Hart Davis Hart.

The two-day auction featured an astounding array of Bordeaux spanning 47 vintages. Bidders from around the globe competed fiercely for the 1,480 lots bringing almost 50% of lots selling above their high estimate. Garnering a total of $5.6 million with 100% of lots sold, Hart Davis Hart offered some of the most highly sought and rare Bordeaux in the world.

Several impressive private collections came across the auction block this weekend, including wines from Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher, Huston Street (lots 214-500) as well as “Magnificent Bordeaux from an East Coast Collector,” (lots 874-952). The impeccable offering from Street showcased several legendary wines of Bordeaux, including one full case of 2010 Château Latour which brought in $14,340 and a full case of 2009 Château Lafite Rothschild which sold for $9,560.

Alongside these fine consignments, HDH was proud to offer two Châteaux-direct offerings.
