Hart Davis Hart Auction Is 100% Sold, Realizing $6.3 Million

Pétrus, Mouton, Lafite and DRC Achieve Top Prices

(May 10, 2011 - Chicago, IL) - Hart Davis Hart held another highly successful wine auction this weekend in Chicago, realizing $6,382,853 in total sales against a pre-auction estimate of $4,402,640-$6,593,490. Wines from Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Pétrus, and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti generated spirited activity from guests in the saleroom, as well as buyers bidding online or by telephone.

Bidders participated from 40 states and the District of Columbia, as well as Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Luxembourg, Macau, Malaysia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom. Bidders in attendance at Chicago’s award-winning TRU restaurant enjoyed incredible wines and great food throughout both days.

"The global market was decidedly upbeat with active participation from Asia, North & South America, and Europe," said CEO Paul Hart.

Bordeaux from the heralded 2000 vintage commanded robust prices throughout the day. Château Pétrus was in the spotlight as well, with a case of the 1983 vintage (estimate $8000-$12,000) selling for $16,730, and a case of the 2002 vintage (estimate $9500 - $14,000) commanding $19,120. Other singular highlights included two lots from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti: a 1998 Assortment (estimate $10,000 - $15,000), which fetched $20,315, and a three bottle lot of 1999 Montrachet (estimate $7000-$10,000), which brought $14,340.

Hart Davis Hart has held three wine auctions so far this year, bringing a total of $17,962,749 against an estimate of $11,225,300-$16,791,340, and achieving an industry-leading 100% sell-through rate. Hart Davis Hart’s next auction will be a two-day sale taking place in downtown Chicago on June 24th-25th. This sale will feature diverse collections of fine and rare wines and is anticipated to be the largest auction of the season for HDH.
