Hart Davis Hart’s February Sale Surpasses High Estimate

100% Sold Auction Brings in $5.6 Million
Against Pre-Sale Estimate of $3.6-5.4 Million

(February 13, 2017 - Chicago, IL) - Hart Davis Hart Wine Co., the largest wine auction house in the US, kicked off what promises to be a tremendous auction year with a blockbuster 100% sold February auction that brought in a total of $5.6 million against pre-sale estimates of $3.6-5.4 million. The quality and breadth of HDH’s February sale attracted participants from every corner of the U.S. as well as fourteen other countries. Hammer prices were higher than we’ve seen since 2014 - the 1,100+ bidders drove over 57% of all lots in the sale to exceed their high estimates. These impressive results solidified Hart Davis Hart’s position as the foremost wine auction house in the U.S.

The two-day auction featured treasures from virtually every wine and spirit region. An impressive selection of Wines from the Collection of Huston Street (lots 1296-1532) achieved particularly remarkable results, bringing in $785,975 against pre-sale estimates of $524,300-783,080. Highlights from this special group were 6 bottles of 2002 La Tâche that sold for $17,925 (est. $10,000-15,000) and a full case of 1982 Château Latour that brought in $21,510 (est. $14,000-20,000). Also of note was A Rare and Magnificent Selection of Burgundy from the Cellar of a Midwest Connoisseur which garnered $263,891 (est. $151,960-227,900). This consignment featured 2010 Musigny, Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier (6 bs) which sold for $16,730 (est. $7,000-10,000) and a three magnums of 2010 Vosne-Romanée, Aux Reignots, Comte Liger-Belair in OWC which sold for $8,962 (est. $4,000-6,000).

In addition to the spectacular consignments from private cellars, the sale also featured two special winery-direct collections. An offering Direct from the Cellars of Bryant Family (lots 1729-1765) brought in $110,896 (est. $72,560-108,700). The mature offerings fared particularly well, with 6 bottles of the family’s 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon bringing in $6,572 against presale estimates of $4,000-6,000. An Exceptional Assortment Direct from The Cellars of Dom Pérignon (lots 2010-2037) also achieved great results; the 28 lots sold for $104,443 (est. $82,900-125,000).
