Hart Davis Hart Wine Co.'s April "Hope Dream Live 2008" Charity Event at Tru Restaurant with Dom Pérignon Raises $200,000 for YMCA Camp Independence

Our highly-anticipated evening of fine wine and cuisine at Tru to benefit YMCA-Camp Independence (formerly the Village Foundation), an organization which will provide a camping experience designed to foster independence in children and young adults with neurological disabilities including Spina Bifida, was a resounding success on April 3rd, raising $200,000 for the organization.

The memorable evening paired fine and rare wines with the exceptional cuisine of Chef Tim Graham of Tru Restaurant. In honor of this special cause, the incredible wines poured during the event included the 1999 Puligny-Montrachet, Les Enseignière, J-F Coche-Dury and 1990 Hermitage, J. L. Chave. The evening was beautifully punctuated by the words of key note speakers Paul Hart, President of Hart Davis Hart Wine Co, Dr. David McLone, Division Head of Neurosurgery at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, and Courtney Daly, a young adult with Spina Bifida.

Top lots from the charity auction included a Napa Valley trip for 4 people which garnered $11,000 for the charity and featured a two-night stay for 2 couples at the luxurious Meadowood Napa Valley with exclusive tastings and tours with California’s top producers, including the incredibly rare opportunity to enjoy a tour and tasting at Harlan Estate. The lot also included a private tasting at Acme Fine Wines in St. Helena and first-class airfare for 4 courtesy of American Airlines. A wine lot featuring 3 bottles each of 1999 Dom Pérignon & 1993 Dom Pérignon Oenotheque, 1999 Puligny-Montrachet, Les Enseignière, J-F Coche-Dury, 1990 Chateau Latour, 1990 Hermitage, J. L. Chave, and 2 bottles of 1986 D’Yquem and brought in $10,000 for the charity.

The April 3rd charity event preceded our regularly scheduled auction on April 5th, which also took place at restaurant Tru in Chicago. The auction was the record fourth straight (and incredible sixth in seven) 100% sold and tallied $2,950,814, soaring over the high end of the pre-sale estimate of $1,709,400-$2,551,320. The next auction will be a spectacular two-day sale from a number of remarkable private collections and will take place at restaurant Tru on May 16th & 17th. YMCA Camp Independence

The Village Foundation and the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago have forged a partnership to establish Camp Independence at YMCA Camp Duncan. This unique, year-round, outdoor retreat and habilitation center will serve children with neurological conditions like spina bifida, cerebral palsy, brain tumors and spinal cord injuries, and others.

Multiple studies prove that YMCA camp can be a transformative experience for children of all backgrounds and that camping provides an excellent way to teach independence skills and foster self-esteem in children and adolescents. YMCA camp provides a social and fun youth development experience that brings youth together in a way that transcends many of the divisions brought on by adolescence.

The Village Foundation has pioneered programs for children living with neurological diseases and knows that the most successful way to increase self-sufficiency depends on outreach to these children at a very early age, continuing through adolescence and leading to independent lives as adults. The Y plays a critical role in helping these children graduate from one level of independence to the next, ensuring their lives are filled with opportunities for growth, not challenges that become obstacles to their development.

By beginning the process of positive change at a young age, YMCA Camp Independence can give campers the resources and skills needed to establish independence, create peer relationships, set personal goals, and make a positive impact in their lives and in the world around them.
