TASTING NOTES

"The 2018 Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves Vigne de l'Enfant Jesus is a promising bottle in the making, offering up a deep bouquet of dark berry fruit, dried flowers, dark chocolate, espresso roast and toasty new oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a muscular core of fruit, ripe tannins and a long, expansive finish. Weber observes that analytically this is very similar indeed to the 1947 vintage of l'Enfant Jesus, and that wine is certainly drinking brilliantly today." "The 2018 Beaune Les Grèves Vigne de L'Enfant Jesus 1er Cru, from the 3.9-hectare monopole in Grèves, has a lovely, floral, very pure bouquet that frankly puts Bouchard’s other Beaune Premier Crus in their place. The medium-bodied palate delivers supple tannin, fine acidity and pure black cherry and blueberry fruit with wonderful details on the finish. This is very classy and punches with many more expensive Premier Crus in the Côte de Nuits." Neal Martin, Vinous.com

"Mentholated, ripe and toasty aromas speak of poached plum, spice and plenty of freshly turned earth scents. The medium-bodied flavors possess a beguiling mouthfeel that is enhanced by the abundant amounts of sappy dry extract that also serves to buffer the even firmer tannic spine shaping the robust though not really rustic finale. Worth checking out." Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, Issue 78

"Vanilla-cream oak notes, a touch of dried herb and dense, ripe strawberry. Full-bodied, with firm, quite fine tannins and a creamy, long finish. I’d like a little more acidity to freshen this up, but it does have plenty of intensity." Tim Jackson MW, JancisRobinson.com
