TASTING NOTES

"Vinified as usual in the same manner as its counterpart from the hamlet of Monbrison, yet reflecting a stonier and geologically distinct soil, Verget’s 2006 Macon-Bussières Vieilles Vignes du Clos smells of pineapple and papaya; comes onto the palate with generous breadth and juicy, gaudily ripe fruit; then finishes with a striking intensity of chalk and salts, though also a certain alcoholic heat. Given their performance in recent Verget collections, it’s easy to see why Guffens maintains that the most under-rated and quite a bit of the best terroir in the Macon is appellation Saint-Veran from around the town of Davaye."
