The Best of Barolo at HDH Retail | Conterno, Grasso, Scavino, Vietti, and More
Often referred to as the "King of Wines," Barolo is loved by collectors for its firm tannins, captivating aromas, and ability to age. Of all the wine-producing countries in the world, Italy is one of the oldest and most diverse with vineyards dating from pre-Roman times and plantings of over 350 known grape varieties. Some, including Nebbiolo in Piedmont, have been farmed for centuries.

Just under 2,000 hectares of vineyards are home to the great Nebbiolo grape, planted in and around five picturesque hilltop villages southwest of Alba. The dense fogs, or nebbia, roll in each evening, cooling and protecting the vines. Like Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo is a particularly finicky and thin-skinned grape, but in the hands of a great producer, they can be coddled into yielding truly transcendent wines.

HDH Retail is thrilled to offer a lovely selection of Barolo, in stock and ready to ship. Don't miss fantastic bottlings from Giacomo Conterno, Elio Grasso, Paolo Scavino, Vietti, and more.

Still a relatively young winery, Elio Grasso produces highly-rated wines with incredible finesse that are elegant, aromatic, and meant for aging. Monica Larner of The Wine Advocate gave the 2013 Barolo Riserva, Rüncot a perfect 100-point score, noting that it "tells a story from nose to finish, like a flashing film reel," and calls it "a crowning achievement for the hard-working and passionate Grasso family."

The wines of Paolo Scavino, the first winemaker to introduce single-vineyard bottlings of Barolo, are complex and elegant, and his passion for terroir shows through in each bottle produced. Larner called the 2011 Barolo Riserva, Novantesimo a "proud and exuberant wine that does enormous justice to the vintage."

Barolo is loved by collectors for its nuances and its ability to age gracefully. Click here to browse all Barolo available.
