2016 Barolo, Cannubi, Michele Chiarlo

Barolo, Piedmont

"Showing the austerity and nobility that defines this vineyard site, the Michele Chiarlo 2016 Barolo Cannubi offers pretty concentration and a velvety texture that is accented by savory tones of red currant, spice, balsam herb and dark tar or licorice. There is a pretty mineral note, but it is very subtle and offers an unexpected pinch of salinity once it is revealed. The loose, sandy soils of Cannubi always render an extra notch of flavor concentration, and you get this especially well in this classic 2016 vintage. This wine will start to be more accessible some eight to 10 years after the harvest." Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2016 Barolo Cannubi captures the essence of this site in the generous style that is such a Chiarlo signature. Freshly cut flowers, sweet red fruit, mint, white pepper and cinnamon are some of the many notes that grace this silky, supple Barolo. The Cannubi can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring, but it also has enough pedigree to drink nicely for at least a number of years to come. It is one of the finer wines I have tasted from Chiarlo in some time." Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

"A succulent, fine-grained Barolo with currant, berry and walnut aromas and flavors. It’s medium-to full-bodied with ripe tannins and a fine, racy finish. Drinkable now, but better in 2022." JamesSuckling.com

"Barolo. Tasted blind. Mid to deep ruby. Spicy, minerally, earthy on the nose. Gorgeous supple palate with fresh and concentrated cherry fruit and grainy tannins." Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com
