TASTING NOTES

"Bright, full red. Very ripe, almost liqueur-like aromas of cherry and raspberry enlivened by rose petal, menthol and crushed stone. Compellingly rich and dense but light on its feet; even richer and riper than the Chapelle but still with terrific inner-mouth energy and juicy definition. The intense red berry flavors are complicated by an exotic spicy/herbal element of za'atar. Even more backward than the Chapelle but the tannins are wonderfully refined and the raspberry and spice finish at least as long." Stephen Tanzer, Vinous.com

"The nose is composed by a special kind of reduction that the Burgundians refer to as bourgeon de cassis is trimmed in copious wood. Otherwise there is terrific energy and intensity to the markedly stony big-bodied and overtly muscular flavors that possess impressive volume and mid-palate density while delivering first-rate detail and length if perhaps not quite the overall complexity. Still, Chambertin is known for its ability to transform over time and this may ultimately surpass the Chapelle even if that is not necessarily the case today." Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, Issue 70

"The 2016 Chambertin Grand Cru had a late malolactic and a slight reduction on the nose. That said, there are clearly plenty of blackberry, raspberry and tobacco scents waiting to come out. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, quite juicy tannin. This is a Chambertin with impressive body and depth, although this year I find more sophistication embroidered into the Clos de Bèze and maybe even the Chapelle-Chambertin."
