First 100-Point 2016 Bordeaux
Bottle Scores Released

Jancis Robinson and Jane Anson recently released in-bottle scores for 2016 Bordeaux, reiterating that the vintage is a remarkable one. Robinson tasted 138 crus classés and noted “The fruit is bright and beguiling and there is no shortage of tannin and freshness.” Julia Harding MW, from JancisRobinson.com, also comments “Of the left-bank wines I tasted, the Pessac-Léognan reds shone most brightly, retaining their archetypal fragrance but also achieving greater richness and a little more generosity than in some vintages. Ch Haut-Bailly, which is often slightly reclusive at this early stage, was the star for me and yet still promises to have a very long life.” Robinson’s top-rated wines from her recent tasting were Château Figeac (18.5 points), Château Pichon-Longueville, Baron (18.5 points), Château Haut-Bailly (18 points), and Château Pape-Clément (17.5 points).

Jane Anson, from Decanter, notes that “several Bordeaux 2016 wines have improved even further since en primeur season, and there is particular excitement on the Left Bank where several top Médoc estates have outperformed 2015.” Anson found the 2016 Châteaux Léoville Las Cases, Lafite Rothschild, and Trotanoy to all be perfect wines, giving them 100-point scores. Additional top scoring wines were Château Mouton Rothschild (99 points), Château Margaux (98 points), Château Figeac (98 points), and Château Pichon-Longueville, Lalande (98 points).

HDH Retail still has an impressive and extensive selection of 2016 Bordeaux available, including severl of Robinson’s and Anson’s top-rated wines. Act quickly as the 2016s are sure to disappear as bottle scores continue to be announced.
