Wine & Spirits Prices Soared at HDH’s 100% Sold May Auction

The Sale Brought in $6.9 Million Against Pre-Sale Estimates of $4.5-6.7 Million

(May 15, 2017 - Chicago, IL) - Hart Davis Hart Wine Co., the internationally renowned wine auction house and retailer, continued its success in 2017 with a tremendous May auction that brought in a total $6.9 million against pre-sale estimates of $4.5-$6.7 million. Held at the award-winning TRU restaurant in Chicago, the two-day sale saw 100% of its 2,439 lots sell. These record results were due to passionate bidding between buyers in the room and collectors throughout the globe using HDH’s state-of-the-art auction website and mobile app.

Nearly 60% of all lots in the two-day sale exceeded their high estimates, with many achieving extraordinary prices. Demand for Bordeaux remained strong, as wines from the region brought in over $2.8 million. Mature vintages of Mouton Rothschild, Pétrus, and Pichon-Longueville, Lalande fetched especially robust prices. Burgundy also fared particularly well in the May sale. 555 lots brought in $1.8 million against presale estimates of $1.1-1.6 million. Highlights included 3 bottles of 2010 Romanée-Conti which sold for $45,410 (est. $30,000-45,000), a case of 1993 Vosne-Romanée, Beaux Monts, Domaine Leroy which brought in $21,510 (est. $8,000-12,000), and six bottles of 2008 La Romanée, Comte Liger-Belair that garnered $16,730 (est. $9,000-14,000).

In addition to the fine French wines on offer, the sale included an impressive selection of California wines. Bidders competed aggressively for bottlings of Screaming Eagle which drove the 41 lots to bring in $191,798 against presale estimates of $115,450-173,850. Bidding was similarly fierce for Rye and Bourbon with 112 of the 159 lots exceeding their high estimates.

Other impressive highlights included:
