Hart Davis Hart Sells $6.3 Million at Auction Bringing Total Sales
in the First Half of 2011 to $23 Million, Up 45% From the Previous Year

(June 28, 2011 - Chicago, IL) - Hart Davis Hart closed the first half of the year with a successful two-day auction this weekend, realizing $6,275,781.50 against a pre-sale auction estimate of $4,597,360-$6,882,000. Bidders participated from 38 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, as well as Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Macau, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom.

Bidding for Burgundy was especially strong, with a case of 1996 La Tâche, DRC (estimate $14,000-$20,000) realizing $23,900, and nine bottles of 1991 Chambertin, Clos de Bèze Armand Rousseau (estimate $9,500-$14,000) realizing $17,925. The HDH Index of auction prices fell 5% sale to sale. The best performing wine in the HDH Index was 1986 Margaux, which rose 5%.

“HDH enjoyed a very strong first half of 2011 and we look forward to the fall season,” noted CEO Paul Hart. “We appreciate the continued support of our buyers and consignors from Chicago, around the US, and all over the world.”

In the first half of 2011, Hart Davis Hart sold $23,188,102 over four auctions with a combined pre-sale estimate of $16,225,300-$24,266,830. Three of the four auctions were 100% sold, with the fourth sale at 99% by lot. With a mere 9 lots passing since 2010, the firm’s sell-through rates were the highest in the industry - an important indicator of Hart Davis Hart’s ability to reach a global audience of top wine buyers.

Hart Davis Hart’s 2011 auctions will resume in the fall, with a spectacular sale on the weekend of September 17. The auction will be preceded by the firm’s annual and highly popular Comparative Bordeaux Tasting featuring the 2006, 2007 and 2008 vintages.
