2012 Brunello di Montalcino, Prime Donne, Donatella Cinelli Colombini

$99.00 per Bottle

7 Bottles

"The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Prime Donne shows floral notes of pressed violet or red rose petal that distinguish it from its peers. Those delicate tones are very much in line with Sangiovese and it's nice to think that they have remained intact despite the hot growing season. Background notes of cassis, dried plum and spice fill in the rear. A dry mineral note that recalls polished river stone or crushed granite also appears. This wine boasts a terrific bouquet that is infused with elegance and grace. The mouthfeel is polished and streamlined. Perhaps the persistence is slightly shorter compared to the 2010 vintage, but this wine more than makes up for this thanks to the high quality of its aromas." "Very ripe fruit aromas and stones follow through to a full body with lots of fruit, ripe tannins and a spicy undertone. Delicious and flamboyant. Better in 2020." JamesSuckling.com

"Fruity, sporting cherry, strawberry and floral notes alongside soy and leather accents, this is firmly structured, ending with iron and tobacco elements. Very long and beautifully balanced. Best from 2020 through 2033. 290 cases made." Wine Spectator

"Quite deep color. Nose a bit quiet, herbs and red fruits. This wine has the ripe fruit and firm structure that seems to be the calling card of the vintage, together with the Porty finish that one associates more with Nebbiolo than Sangiovese." Nicolas Belfrage MW, The World of Fine Wine, Issue 56

"Good full red with an amber rim. Balsamic nuances complicate tar and dark red cherry aromas and flavors. Enters sweet and round, then more austere and woodsy, with zingy acidity and youthfully chewy tannins providing support on the long finish. A bigger wine than the classic Brunello, but I’m not sure it’s a better wine." Ian D’Agata, Vinous.com

"Deeper crimson than most. Rusty rim. Very healthy sheen. Hidden nose promises quite a bit. Sweet start and much richer palate and less obvious tannins than many. The acidity seems more muted. A wine that seems to have a nod to the old super-ripe style." (16.5 points) JancisRobinson.com, March 2017
