"Dark ruby red. Loads of Christmas cake, dried fruits and cream character. Full-bodied, with big and chewy tannins and loads of toasty oak, coffee and fruit on the finish. Just starting to come around. Give it a little more time.--1997 Italian blind retrospective. Best after 2010. 915 cases made." Wine Spectator
(WS, 01/01/2007)

Rating: 93
Drink from: 2010

"Good full deep red. Lively, deep aromas of spicy red berries, minerals and toffee. Richer, sweeter and larger-scaled than the Valeirano but shows more spicy oak and less primary fruit and thus comes across as a bit less suave. Here the tannins are more obvious." Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
(IWC, 11/01/2000)

Rating: 92(+?)

"The 1997 Barbaresco-La Spinetta Vigneto Starderi boasts a dark plum/purple color in addition to full body, great fruit, concentration, and power, but it is firm and closed compared to its siblings. There is plenty of potential, but this wine needs 4-5 years of cellaring. It should keep for two decades." Robert Parker's Wine Advocate #135
(WA, 06/01/2001)

Rating: 92
